Printmaking

I mostly make monotypes when I am printmaking. I roll Etching ink onto plexiglass, place printmaking paper on top of the plexiglass. I then slowly make markings and drawings on the paper to pull an impression onto the paper. Throughout this process, I can't see what is happening on the printmaking paper until I decide to flip it over. It is an inherently mysterious process that transforms the subject, and the visual result is also mysterious, conveying a sense of disintegration into the void by transforming the subject. When I flip it over You are viewing the image backwards, and therefore seeing it more objectively than it was before. The process and aftermath are meant to not only show a disintegrating, blurred loss of self but also demonstrate the process that makes us feel this way.
